Alan Greaves RIP

Life and death is so cruel, the poor Guy who died yesterday in a Sheffield, didn't deserve to die. He was s'one who was passionate about helping his Community and others, and yes he will have received Respect and Love, from the Community in return.....until Xmas Eve. Was it a gang? a single blow, from a single person?Who knows? I hope they catch em, whoever it was. My thoughts are with his Wife and 4 kids.

I'm trying to share myself between 2 places on New Years Eve, but to play it safe, I promised my lil boy we'd go on a Cycle ride on New Years Day. So I can't go mad! My plan is to cycle with Holly to Anj' in the afternoon. And then in the evening go to the Spit, but thing is my eyesight' deteriorating and at night I really have problems. Putting my trike away and such stuff. A friend is coming to the pub, with me, but I don't know? I ended up in a garden last time!!!

I don't sound very attractive do I :)xxxx

Thursday 27 December 2012

Hey I'm good, and i'm happy.

I slept in till 8, and it really wasn't very light!!! So I took Holly round the wet streets of Totley (that'll amuse my friend who claims it always rains in Totley!! Even though he comes from Leeds!!!!!)

My old friend from 1980!!!! - came to visit, with his girlfriend and 2 year old. Ahhhhhh, it was lovely seeing them before they embark on the next chapter of life which is, New Zeal and!! He did say to Daisy, that I had been her age when he first knew me!!! But I looked a lot older!!! I do suspect, that's in his head though!!

I'm not wanting to be incredibly;ly negative, but blumin ek!! it's amazing how many of us are dead!!!

I tried to sell him a greenspeed as he was heading that way. As his 2 year old sat playing in Ziggy, I'm not sure I convinced hum. But I got the impression, money wasn't an issue!!

I shackled Holly to the back of the trike, with her new collar wit h red flashing lights, despite having this, I wanted a lazy slow crawl to my mates. So I took the pavement!!

Lucky Me

I slept like sweaty Betty, feeling like all the strength had been sapped from my very existance! and that in the night I'd snacked on a packet of Razor Blades!!
I called my GP, to get some Anti Biotics???? It was a long shot. But the dr, who'm I had never seen or spoken too. Remarked on how healthy I was! and she asked what I thought I needed etc.....:)  I arranged for the tablets to be delivered, and Jobs a good un, so to speak!! I wanted to celebrate a tad tonight, so I don't think I'm starting the course till Boxing Day.

I have 3 single mates, (well actually a lot more) All were at a loss, so a couple of em came round, a curry was ordered, and we were full fat and f.....!!! not at all, what were you thinkinjg!!

I usually get really down, but I feel goooood!!!

Merry Xmas everyone!! xxxx

Sunday 23 December 2012

Poorly me!!

my children feel blessed!!! I lost my voice on Thursday/Friday, and to be honest it was quite novel!! But last night and today, I'm going feverish, and all kind of debilitated. And I know from past experience, although a long time ago - 5years. When I get a temperature, I have a Siezure!! So I've been in bed all day, apart from nippinhg Holly out. At.......get this :) 16.30!!! and it was still light.

Although I did infact download, the Game Makers Xmas Single, to support my Mate Wendy Creed. I think the right 'Guys' won the top spot?

I'm glad I'm organised, and that I aint rushing round in a panic, I am incredibly organised, for Xmas and for the first year, for 24 years, I have wrapped all my presents. I do find it really difficult - honest!! But in a fashion, they are done!!!

I'm going to bed with a hot chocolate, just now, night, night. xx

Friday 21 December 2012

Hi

I'm still here, pickled Liver and all!!! Tonight I will Celebrate? a quiet drink wi my mate in the house and a few nibbles, making the 4th one in 5 days! But nusn't grumble.....but I am because, I spend lots of lonely times, the rest of the year.

As for Ziggy? She's a much easier ride, since she went back to West Country Recumbent to have her brake tinkered with amd whilst there he tampered with her rear end :)  I think maybe s'one hadn't put the washers and bolts back on in order?? Anyway although I've bot cycled too far, I've found her much easier, to shift uphill.

Went out this morning for meetings, and to choose some glad rags :)

Last night, I went out with 31 SW, and we had a great time, I boogied the night away, but left reasonably early, at 11 because I felt sorry for Holly. And today, I didn't get up till 12.00!!!. Ey :) the luxury every now and then of not having the kids. I sped up, relatively so!!! meeting my friend and the boys after school.

Wednesday 12 December 2012

an increase of 200!!!

I don't really understand the significance, but 'You know those lung capacity measuring things, where you blow down a tube, and get a reading for how much air your lungs can hold and expel and the velocity, at which it does that?? Well 6 years ago I could barely reach a child's measurement of 200ml, but today out of the blue I tested it with my son, who was shocked to see I reached a maximum  capacity reading of over 400ML!!!

Ahhh today I did the school run on Ziggy, ey it brought back memories, as I went to see the school nativity, then Anjies, then the library.

And catch this link below, it is the brill Well being Consortium who have funded my exploits for over 3 years.

I'm sorry Dave about Monday night.

Sunday 9 December 2012

Calendar Girl!!

Well not like you think, I edited and compilled a Calendar today, for my Cyclist Friends at Hillsborough. It has 13 Pics, and costs £10each. Ahhh and it aint ready for 9days, :( I'm so excited about it !!!

Millhouses tomorrow :) to meet Steve M, Pam, and Dave, and maybe Anj :)

Friday 7 December 2012

I am a Saddo really?

You know how little things please......? You get the drift? Well, I'm really excited because I have introduced Alan off the Tesco bus (who I bullied into Cycling) to my friend Pete, and they've arranged a jamming Session on Tuesday, and spoke at length on the telephone this Evening. :)

And I got a simple text from Steve M thanking me for Thursday, and all year actually!!

Thursday 6 December 2012

Easy Lay?!

That got your attention!!!

I know I flirt immensely, and am very flirty and tactile. And to those who know me well, well it's just me being friends, nothing more or less! Now on occasion, my behaviour has led to presumptions that I am some kind of Nymphomaniac (that's 4 me to know, and maybe a few others!!), that I won't disclose now. But I refuse to change my harmless behaviour. I won't name names, but one of the folk who attended Cycling 4 All, asked me out for a drink today Ooooooooooooh, I can still pull :) I explained that just maybe it was unethical??

I arrived and was greeted by Rob, who I had let have a go on my trike the other week, he'd brought along 3 friends who were at various stages in their Cycling Journey, but all had been told how Ace Ziggy was, and a go each ensued. John cycled on the Courts, with his Mum fussing round :) She's great his Mum :) John and I cycled round the Court, and we were joined by Alan, (the tesco bus guy) It was great to see John, and Alan, looking out for each other :) Graeme, shouted Steve M and I back in the cabin, ahhhh and bless him what a nice surprise!! He'd got a Lego Olympic Cyclist each, for us!!! :)

Pat arrived, and beamed at Steve, Graham, and Charlie, as they thanked her for her box of Chocs. Luckily, I'd given her, and all the other regulars a card from us all.

I sat down with John and Alan, and Geoff was taking some pics for Steve, and it was all very squashed and cosy as Angela from Pedal Ready, was taking a Cycle Maintenance Course. Brrrrr! It was cold out and the group that had arrived all use the velar Plus, so that was my cue to stay indoors and have another cuppa!!

I'm just trying to arrange a drinky for us all, but it's impossible!!

Marj and Barry phoned, they were on there way. I did another couple of laps of the Park with John, on the Side by Side, and then greeted Marjorie, who'd bought me a Xmas Pressie :) I haven't peeped though!!!

Wednesday 5 December 2012

It's me!!

I smiled smugly as I cycled up my road, aware of the fact that my ex husband was behind in the car. It was bitterly cold, and Holly dog trotted along by my side, secured by a lead attatched to my Pannier Rack. I smiled because he'll have been thinking 'Poor Caroline having to Cycle to the Shops, with her scraggy rescue dog in tow. Whilst I sit in warmth and comfort, taking my Pedigree dog out.' Little did he know that Experience is Wealth.

I'm off to Hillsborough Tomorrow, if it's on! I'm hoping it is, but I know what community tyransport is like, the first flake of snow, and they will cancel.

Tuesday 4 December 2012

Investment in the Future?

We will find out the implications tomorrow. Fingers crossed!!

Monday 3 December 2012

Nice relaxing day :)

Hey I reckon I'm telepathic? not really, but I emailed my mate Nick Clegg, suggesting that our Rendezvous in March, actually be a Spring Board for investment in Inclusive Cycling Projects like Hillsborough. And from what I gather such an announcement was made today??? not sure was it millions? I'm not suggesting for one minute, btw that my email, was responsible!!

Oh spoke to my friend whose having probs with JSA etc, things have got slightly  better, in the fact that I know he's still alive!!

Carol and Rob (west country recumbent) are doing some team work, and putting the finishing touch to repairing Ziggy soon. Not sure when yet? Although it's really difficult to choose 2 days together, when I definately won't use her. Although, I aint been tempted in this weather.

Saturday 1 December 2012

Friends in very sad places.

I have many friends, who like myself are being assesed for Job Seekers Allowance etc, and Income Support. It was one such chap, who I was with today, at the Write Way writing group. His case has gone to Appeal, because he was told, to get off his arse, basically. He needs an advocate? And in my Kerry Fisted Way, I am confident, as his Friend and Aly, I could do it. I just didn't know what I was doing on Monday, or how I would get to him and his Drs? So I was a total S*, and said I would need to let him know.

He's let another friend, look after his dog, which is very worrying.

I have found him a free helpline number, and spoken to Headway, and Sheffield Centre for Independant Living.  Both of which could help, but not at such short notice.....So?

Oh I don't know?? I hope he's ok? I have heard a ridiculous number?? 1 thousand Suicides have already been blamed on Benefit Cuts? or s'thing like that?? I hope it aint 1001

Thursday 29 November 2012

Leeds

How do folk commute, day in day out. I have truelly been blessed, because, I am brain damaged !!! But It may be easier, if I wasn't and I might enjoy it more, perhaps enjoys a bit strong, but yo know what I'm saying?

Tuesday 27 November 2012

I'm off 2 Leeds tomorrow!! :)

I've been asked to get the train to Leeds tomorrow, to represent along with some other Health Champions, at a Health Service Market the work I do at Hillsborough, for the CTC. I don't suppose it will get any publicity or any extra Punters at C4A, but looking at the bigger picture it will get Inclusive Cycling a bit of lime light. I was asked because other Health Champs from Leeds had dropped out, and I don't need a script or preparation time, I just speak!!.....a lot

Got a text telling me to listen to this, ahhhh, it was really nice, she was such a strong lady. I could do wi a Charlie s'times.http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01p0fpl/Afternoon_Drama_Beryl_A_Love_Story_on_Two_Wheels/
I'm sorry the link doesn't work, but hopefully you can decifer s'thing.

Monday 26 November 2012

:(

I don't wanna name names, but I'm gutted today. 12 folk, went on a bike ride in Derbyshire today, they were all Guys who go to Hillsborough Cycling 4 All. Apparently I couldn't go because there wasn't enough room in the Mini bus for Ziggy. But I kinda think, well they could have gone somewhere, where I could hire a tricycle??? If they'd have wanted me to go with them??? But it's help me realise, that I don't help at Hillsborough, for Steve, Miriam, Nigel, or Marj, Barry, Dave, Pat or John. I do it for me, regardless of who else is there!

I just cycled to the PO and bus stop, in the rain. But hey, that doesn't actually bother me.

Saturday 24 November 2012

Oooops

I got Dave's 'Special' (What's one of them then?) wrong.

But dearest, I've lost your Addy. Hey you correctly identified sometime ago that I was Kerry Fist ed, so can you please email me it again.

Thank you.

I've worked really hard today restoring my house to it's former self, kind of. So I've not cycled, just taken Holly out twice.....it's very dull, but she appreciated it :)

Bombing Bomas

Well 1 of them!!
View photo0296_001.jpg in slide show
photo0296_001.jpg
Steve had asked me if I wanted to meet and try a Boma 7??? I'm not sure if he meant Boma 70?? Anyway, I had the pleasure of meeting Chris from Moltern Rock. Who is the proud owner of one. And remembered me from the Cornwall Allability Cycling Conference, he didn't make further comment :) I know this isn't what folk want to hear, but it did remind me of my Mobility scooter, atleast it's controls were the same. It did kinda make me think where I stood on the Mobility Scooter, Boma, Power Assisted Cycle, Pedal  Cycle??? And I still don't know really, because admitadly, it aint muscle power turning the wheels. But no one should be excluded from the pleasure of cycling if they want to do it, even if that means extra help. I know it aint easy messing with locks, and getting out of recumbent cycles for example.

Awwww Steve took Robbie, I love Robbie, who loves Holly dog. So when Steve dropped me home, Robbie came into see Holly. And we took them for a walk. And Steve said that he didn't think I'd ever be safe enough to ride a 2 wheeler on the road. But agreed, to me getting James Cycles to loaning me one at Hillsborough to practice on. But when I phoned James Cycles, they weren't prepared to bring one to Hillsborough :(

On Monday, 12 folk from Hilsborough C4A  are going on a Xmas bike ride. I can't go because there isn't room to take Ziggy :( in the mini bus.

Thursday 22 November 2012

Ouch!!

I'm sssso sleepy, DAR collected me at 10, and it still took an hour, even though I was the only pick up. The weather was grim, everyone else was cold? Me I was like a hot potato??!!! The guy J, with the brain injury came, which I was really pleased about :) I was a bit warm,  I cycled wi J a couple of figure of 8s round the park. And as agreed, I made him a cup of Coffee. Lunch came and went..... and eeeek, my turn??? I was absolutely fine on the flat, with Steve, and I was grinning from ear to ear, I was very pleased. But the ninute I tried toi cycle up the hill, I wobbled...and fell twice!! It was as if the metal fence with strong vertical poles, was magnetic and I was a pin!! Needless to say I fell off twice!! It was as if I couldn't gatjer enough speed to be stable, when going up, so I think a Power Assisted 2 wheeler, should be my next bike.

Ooooooh and guess what I'm doing tomorrow? Well, I'm going to Creative Writing, and then I'm off to meet a guy called Chris and his Boma 7??? for some off road stuff.

Should be fun!!

I'm invited out tomorrow night, with my friends from ASC, but I just can't afford to taxi it. And I don't like locking Ziggy up at the bus stop, at night.

Wednesday 21 November 2012

blurrrr means speed. :)

Social Returns On Investments

I really enjoyed the training? day today. I'm not actually sure who arranged it, but for the first time ever, I began to understand how it was calculated.

Andit felt so good, :) because do you remember the GP and the guy from the council, that I went to London with??? Well I gave the fab, bike riding GP, some of my contact cards, and yapped on about Hillsborough, all day. Well some of it must have gone in because, a guy called my Moby today and asked if he could come to Hillsborough this Thursday., because his GP had told him that I'd 'Buddy' him because he didn't really know anyone. I'm sooo looking forward to meeting him on Thursday :)

Steve txt and asked me if I'd meet him at Endcliffe on Friday, to try an off road quad bike????

I'll have to miss Write Way though :( But I'm just trying to work out whether it's worth me going and leaving early?? I'm meeting Dave down there as well.

Awww, my old BF couldn't make it today, but to be honest I was....am, so knackered. I seem to have been on the go for ages. Musn't grumble.

I'm meeting Anj, and Miriam tomorrow in Millhouses Park.

Monday 19 November 2012

Co Production

I've been flexing that big muscle inbetween my ears today, at a really heavy serious meeting at Social Services. You know which big Muscle my Tongue!! i think my brains itsy! It all sounded quite complex.

Tomorrow I'm off to another high brow meet (i only get asked because I tell things like they are I think) and I have no shame. Where the cost of ~Health Champions V Savings to the Health Budget, is to be scrutinised. I'm going with Nigel West, whose one of my favourite people.

Sunday 18 November 2012

Where Do I begin???

I'm afraid Dave, Rob, and Pete  and any other lovelies. I'm sorry  I've been unfaithful to The Fat Lass, and I've been sharing my bad spellings and stories of life on a Recumbent Trike, with another Man. I aint seen the Guy since I was 15!!!! I am now 46!!! Bloody hell he didn't know about my accident, or owt. So you can imagine how much filling in there has been. He was and still is.....called Nigel, I did love him so, but hey we were young, it was ace because he had a car!! Anyway, he lives in Northhampton?? and is married :( So I know to leave alone, a bit. I bet that Face Book, is named in a fair few divorces!!

Urm.... let me think... Friday, I got summoned  to the DSS, they wanted to make suggestions about voluntary work, I could be doing!!! To fill my day!! So I went to Creative Writing , Matt dropped me off at the Job Centre Plus, where I had a 20minute appointment. One and a Half hours later, I left with my Record of Involvement, having sold it to the staff and the Managers.

Oooooh and Hillsborough was ACE on the Thursday, I had met John and his Mum at a BIRRP meeting and persueded them to meet me there on Thursday, and they came. And I think John quietly loved it!! he stayed 2 hrs. I have yet to see him walk, but I think he uses a frame. His Mum was totally sold by me and the Guys at Hillsborough though. And I was very fond of her French Bulldog too. After John had gone, it was my turn to be selfish, and use Steve (in my dreams!!) to catch me should I fall off the 2 wheeler. I got quite giddy on it starting and stopping without 'planning' and 'Worrying' about it.  I was truely knackered though and could have gone straiht to sleep!! after I'd done the starting stopping for 20 mins. So we went for lunch, because I knew Marj was coming at 1, Steve and Charlie took 3 individuals round on the velor Plus. And amother guy with Autism, who likes to be on his own- totally, comes and we cannot look, or speak to the guy. It's the hardest thing in the world for me.  But it's getting easier every week for him :)

I zoomed down after lunch to meet Marj, and we cycled round many times, our time was just coming to an end when we passed Alan, who gets the Tesco Bus on a Tuesday. Now, he has slight curvature of the spine I think. I said Hello and persueded him to come and try one of the upright trikes. Which he did and loved!! Another convert !!!!!

After my incident in the garden and ditch last week. I invested in some new lights for my trike, I tried them out tonight getting back from the bus stop, public transport took forever, because Jess Ennis was in Town turning on the Xmas lights.

Wednesday 14 November 2012

Hey I did it!

Right I'll try this, if it don't happen for you, your not missing much honest. It's just to give people an idea of how eccentric I look, with my dog and trike. I've got to admit, I was a bit scared, so used the pavement on the way to my friend Anjis, because to be honest the road's so steep, I crawled!! But I did go at Whippet speed, coming home, I must have looked bonkers! It was fab, it put me in mind of when I first had my trike, and everyone used to chat.

Hey it's Hillsborough tomorrow.:)

I nearly 4got, Do you remember the Record of Involvement? I produced, along with Michael whose got some Autism, and he's a total technical whizz, so we compliment each others work. Anyway the Job Centre Plus, have summoned me to a meeting on Friday about whether I sit on my Arse all day, and to prove I don't I'm taking the RoI.  And they are very interested in using it themselves, to prevent benefit fraud. I supposed, it's ok for me because I enjoy doing stuff, but I do know what it's like to be demotivated, and I honestly don't think I would have been fair, if I'd have been made to do stuff, because I felt the way I felt was a Sympton of my condition.

Thursday 8 November 2012

Ooooh my A* and Lady Garden!!

I spent abot 90mins today, circling the Courts today on a 2 wheeler, and repeatedly stopping, and not falling off!!! Well ok then maybe once!! Ouch, but good Old Graeme did actually save me I'm just being a wuss. Wow it was hard work, but I did it and wanted to do more, I cant wait untill next week. Steve kinda helped xxx with words of encouragement. But I tended to be giddy showing off, when Steve was there, and end up on my arse!!

But I had improved 10 fold, since I last tried. And Graham reckoned I would be safe enough for the next Cycle For Health!! on 2 wheels, as a participent!!

Marj and Bazza came for their Cycle, but I wasn't really able to give them too nuch attention, I was all wrapped up with learning to balance!! But apart from that, it was very cold and dark today, and not many folk turned up.

Monday 5 November 2012

Mystery Man on a Recumbent?

Is a very nice man, with a very helpful Mrs!! He spares my blushes about finding it tough going by adding he believes, the back wheel is sticking??? But it's safe thanks to Rob and Carol, of West Country Recumbent. I'm soooo tired!! I will fill you in tomorrow. x

Friday 2 November 2012

How quickly time flies.....

It was a year ago today, that my lovely Mum died. So to commemorate my bro and Sue took Me and the Kids, out for lunch and we visited Mums grave and lit a Rocket. We tried to no avail to do the Chinese Lantern thing, and it was just too windy. How sad, it was to look round where Mum and Dads grave is, the tomb stones of a Sheffield United Fan, aged 46 (same age as me) leaving his 2 children. And a 21 year old young man, in the next grave. Atleast Mum and Dad lived long enough to experience, and learn from life.

Hey I'm pleased to see the CTC have got behind my mate Rob (who's repairing Ziggy, as I write!!) regarding the witch hunt thats going on. (see Sunday the 28ths post)

Thursday 1 November 2012

I miss Ziggy

Good news though, my new brake has arrived :) And because West Country Recumbents, have a fab After Care Service, they are collecting Ziggy, fitting the new braKE, and checking out the other brake. And returning her too me, on Monday.

I can't wait.

Sunday 28 October 2012

Is it Rob? :)

Flat-out cyclist gets backs up at area forum meeting

A CYCLIST who travels around South Derbyshire on a high-tech bike will ‘kill himself or someone else’, a community meeting has heard.
The man criss-crosses the roads around Repton on a recumbent cycle, where the rider pedals in a lying position, a configuration which is supposedly more comfortable and more aerodynamic than traditional bikes.
But the low position of the machine means it is difficult for other road users to spot, according to attendees at the latest Safer Neighbourhood meeting for the area.
Michael Stanton, who represents Repton on South Derbyshire District Council, said he had a close encounter with the cyclist when emerging from the driveway of his home in Ticknall in his pick-up truck.
He told the meeting: “I was about to pull out when I noticed this wire going past the bonnet with a pennant on it, then I saw this fellow go past lying on his back in a cylindrical type object.
“If it had been one second later I would have killed him. If he gets killed it probably serves him right, but the problem is, he may end up killing or injuring someone else.”
Councillor Stanton’s colourful description of the episode provoked laughter from the audience at Milton Village Hall, but another attendee said the issue should be treated seriously.
The man, who asked not to be named, said the same cyclist had recently collided with the back of his tractor and was now claiming £9,000 compensation as he had to import replacement parts from Australia. The man said: “We see a lot of cyclists on the road and it’s not a problem because we keep out of their way and they keep out of ours, but we just can’t see this guy. He’s out of control.”
The meeting heard the cyclist was routinely followed in a van by his wife, who filmed him ‘for his own protection’ because of the abuse he received from other road users.
However, the bike was entirely legal and taking action against its owner was difficult unless there was evidence he had breached traffic law.
Police Sergeant Steve Todd, safer neighbourhood officer for the area, told the meeting: “If we have evidence of offences we could act, but just cycling down the road on that vehicle is perfectly legal.”
Speaking after the meeting, Councillor Stanton said the cyclist risked killing himself or others and suggested he would be ‘better off going to Dignitas’ — the Swiss clinic which carries out assisted suicide.

Hillsbrough

I'm very achy, eh I'm not as fit as I was..a year ago?? Which has just reminded me it's nearly a year ago, since my lovely Mum died. What an Event she missed when I carried the Olympic Torch, just knowing that both my Mum and Dad would have loved it was enough though, and seeing the Residents of Henleigh Hall. Mums last Home. Anyway Im not getting all meloncolic, I'm feeling lazy because I'm knackered. I actually refused the offer of a coffee and cake, at a mates this morning!! Hey I never refuse that. It's a good job, the Write Way group, was cancelled, I know I'd have made an extra effort for that :) As we're working on new written pieces for the next Publication, due out probably January. And Kev and Brigitte Hickman have already booked a place!!

Anyway, Community Transport Arrived, and yes I was the 1st customer of 3, who needed picking up, and dropping off. But I musn't grumble, it is honestly the only way I could get to Hillsborough, because of my disability.  Which is exactly why I get the help with getting there. I had to have enough checks and evidance, and believe me, if they could have got out of taking me...they would have. I arrived and there's a man who cycles, and well......we don't interact with him! because this would upset him...a lot!  The 2 Velor Plus' were being used, Graham and Steve doing the pedaling. So I was a bit lost, ??? So I just cycled around the Park, meeting and greeting every 4 legged creature I met, and the occasional 2 legged one!! I cycled back at about 11, ready to greet the next Participent, it was the Lovely Pat, she loves Graham best, and we complimented her about the colour of her nails and hair, which she laps up. But first she has to put up with Charlie and I cycling with her, then Steve and I, finally she is treated to Grahams company. Steve bought me a well earned lunch, which the lovely Charlie fetched (hey, I like it s'times!) I am going to come at 11-3 on the 1st of November though. There isn't any next week, because Steves in Scarborough, and Nicks gone :( and Dave's not well enough.

We spoke excitedly over lunch about our plans for Ride London, and how it would be fantastic if Hillsborough Inclusive Cycling had a presence. So watch this space....

After lunch Karen, and Mark arrived, she prefers one of the newer cycles which has a back rest and 3 wheels, and he joins us on a 3 wheeler. My mates Marj and Barry came too. I cycled the park, with them whist Charlie, did a few laps with his Bruv, and the Velor Plus' were in perminant use!!!

At 2pm I was pleased to be the only drop off for the bus.

Wednesday 24 October 2012

Wednesday

I do love Dave B, he's such a sound philosophical guy, with the Best of lifes values. He just looks better everytime I see him. We were joined by Anj, remember Anj? Petes ex? but my friend first and formost!! We sat putting the world to rights for a couple of hours!!!! what are we like??? I did say that it has taken me a while to reclaim the power. But I now knew I don't need anybody to make me happy! I am the master of my own destiny!! but gi me a cycle anyday!!!

I cycled home in the rain, I do love cycling in the rain :)

It's Hillsborough, I still love it. But I no longer just make an impression by being there. I have to actually do things!!!

Tuesday 23 October 2012

Deep Vein Thrombosis????

I think I'm getting a bit of a reputation (as pure as driven snow me!!) for being a massive drama queen!! Me? as if?

I'm gonna have to go to bed now, I'm quite tired having spent from midnight, till 5.30 at Northern General Hospital. I'll finish this tomorrow.

I can't wait until tomorrow, I'm cycling to Millhouses, to meet my friend Dave. I love seeing Dave, he makes me feel very happy.

ICF in Oxford :)

I must rush now, but Steve M, has got my dog Holly, much to the delight or Robbie, his Lurcher. And the children, are with their Dad, but only because they can come home tomorrow, when I'm home from Oxford. And Steve my bruv, has had top sort ther logistics of trains and lifts.

Kev Hickman, saved me from Mortal embarrasment. (i was taking my sleeping bag and pillow!! to Oxford) Well in my day, you had to take them to YH!! and there's B&B !!!! ......ey times change.

Must dash, Ive got a train to catch.x

Hillsborough

Just a Quickie :)

Cycling 4 All, was fab today, it was extremely busy, which is always good. And 3 folk, were there because they'd met me, which is such a nice feeling, including a young woman, 'Jane' because... Do you remember in June, I did that Cycle Chic Ride, starting at Endcliffe, and taking a safer scenic route into town, and back?? Well, I remember meeting her, and I'd given her my card, which has Steves number on it also. Ater She'd explained that she had sustained a serious Brain Injury, and wanted to get cycling to increase her independence. I gushed about the work that we did at C4A, she said shed have to check with her Therapists, (who all are familiar, with Me and C4A). I had wondered, what had become of her? She had been working on her 'Physical Space' and had had problems with perception. Anyway she was happily Cycling around the Park, with Steve. Reinforcing those Cycling Skills, she was so happy.

My friend Lorraine came, with her Client Pat and as usual Graham made a huge fuss of her, and they Cycled around the Park, I cycled round with a bigger young chap, who has a Learning Difficulty, and is ACE, and very friendly.

Steve bought lunch, but I fetched it. And poor Graham, was knackered, and willingly took some cycles back and then made drinks. There wasn't room to sit down again in the Cabin, it was great. 'Karen' and 'Mark' arrived Early, for their afternoon Cycle, carrying gifts, a box of chocs for me. And some sticky Muffins, for everyone.

I zoomed to the courts after lunch, wi Karen and Mark, and spotted Marjorie and Barry waiting patiently on the bench. She gave me a little wave, and said OOOh OOooh! so I kinda split myself in 2!! whilst Graham and Steve, took a couple of wheelchair users round on the very well used Velor Plus'!!

I did have a sneaky go on a Brompton, and would have come a cropper, if Steve hadn't have caught me :(

Wednesday 17 October 2012

Ahh, folk do care

I'm going to spare you Gentlemen the details, but this morning....Blue Flashing light job, to the Childrens Hosp. My lil boy, aged 10 next week, had a suspected ....ouch!!! I can't say. But I can never know ;) but links of sausages come to my mind! I know thats generous! we're talking Chipolatas here!!

Anyway 3hrs later and 3 surgeons later, they decided to give him good old Calpol, and send him home. Much to everyones relief. But we had to get a taxi back, and I really wasn't counting on that expense.

:( Community Transport/Dial a ride had left me a message, on my home phone saying How they could take me to Hillsborough, but not bring me back.

I text Steve in Vain :(

My neighbour kinda fell in my kitchen door, full of the joys of a boozy early bar. Now everyone knows how much Hillsborough means to me. He said leave it to me Caz!! As he said that Steve text, and said if I could get there he'd make sure I got home. :)

Spoke to the lovely Dave, who I misss sooooo much. He reckons, he'll be back at Xmas.

Monday 15 October 2012

Crumbs and Shucks, I meant to phone you Kev!!

I am feeling ok. at this time of night. But in the morning, I just can't get up out of bed. Which kinda makes me feel low, but the reason why I'm finding it difficult is probably because I feel down?? But I've had some good news, it appears, I was spotted?? (I know I forced myself on a few folk) By some folk who are creating Ellenburn Trail? in Whitby??? And I think the CTC are very much hoping to be part.

I spent the day again trying to convince Researches from the university, that Peer Support was the way. Whether that be 'A healthy Cook group,' a swipping Group, or an Inclusive Cycling Group :) I think the evidance was there for them to see, without my input. But I loved the opportunity, to Network, and see Nigel. He is so supportive.

Tomorrow, my plans are, once the kids are gone, Swmming, meet Miriam, Birrp...... Meeting, Cycle to Millhouses Park to meet Nigel, and Steve M to look for a way forward??? Cycle home.so I know I will be bushed....:)

Sunday 14 October 2012

Dalby was Ace

I do this sometimes, if I delay writing, or speaking about s'thing special I've done. I tend to loose it. But at 8am on Saturday Steve Marsden arrived at my house in the the mini bus to collect me and Ziggy. Ooooh how exciting, I was nearly as excited at the prospect of having Steves captive attention, as I was at the thought of Dalby! But not really!!!

Steve didn't give me any warning, because he wasn't sure himself, what it would be like. And how blessed we were with the weather!! We were given a table, and a coouple of gazebos, to call home. There were so many familiar faces, from the CTC I can't begin to tell you, other than Gavin, Therese, and Steve Bailey. Oh and one of the Dans?? I then met a couple of guys who were actually placed there from.....? the forestry commision, and Dalby itself. I got on particulally well with Mark, and after 30mins we were planning our escape into the forest, me on Ziggy and him on a KMX.

It was brilliant, the trees were lovely, and we had no problem getting around the gates. Because there was no chance of going through the gate like the guys on the 2 wheelers.

I tried the Skills trail 1 (blue??) all the paths and trails were colour coded. I chose the easiest. Which was very easy, but i was going very slowly. I moved onto the medium skilled trail. But Ziggy balanced like a see saw, on these tree routes
:(

Back at the stall, I wasn't intirely sure what we were doing?? I just smiled, inanely!!

Mark and I soon got itchy feet again though, and we chose the side by side. (if people weren't coming to us, we would search them out! and we had great fun douing it! The beauty of Dalby was (and don't ask me how???) But everywhere's down hill.

3.15pm and it was time for me to say goodbye, to all the lovely folk, I'd met.

I'll put some pics on when Therese, sends me some.

Hey just a thought, this guy knew of s'one who was giving away a 16' electric Brompton wheel. And he reckoned, I'd be able to use it on Ziggy???? What does everyone think???

Friday 12 October 2012

Never Stopped!!

It took me an hour, to reach Hillsborough Park today. I shared my Dial A Ride bus, with Quentin (it's not actually Quentin, but its kinda similar) and if I'm really honest, I thought He was a She!! This meant we were dropping him off at ENABLE first, where he happily seals envelopes all day, and he really loves his job. And credit to him, I couldn't hack it!! In fact in 1990, I failed my assesment for the very same place. I just couldn't hack it, it was demotivating. So I did try~:D

Anyway, I got there at 10, and got straight into it. several folk who required the trikes arrived, but all kind of individually. A Couple of heavy chaps with Autism who were a true delight, they absolutely loved it. There is one chap who comes at 10, who pedals round weaving in and out of folk, making motor car noises, and swearing a bit. But do you know, it just seems to be a release for him. But only his carers interact with him, he's not keen on strangers.

My friend arrived, she is from Scotland, and is a Survivor of Myesphenia Gravis-

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disorder. The signal from the nerves to the muscles in blocked. As a result the muscle can not move. The muscles become increasingly weak.
Symptoms may grow more severe over time. This is a potentially serious condition. MG requires care from your doctor. If you suspect you have this condition, contact your doctor immediately.

It must be s'thing about the name, because she's called Caroline also! But she really likes talkling, and thrives on having such an interesting illness.
View Photo0286.jpg in slide show not a very clear pic, but it was sooo busy at Hillsbro!!

She loved the cycles, and we nipped to the shops on the side by side. And were just given a wee push by the fab Charlie, who is the new volunteer. Who loves cycling and he also has a brother who has Autism, who enjoys C4A. So he's qualified :)

We headed for the cabin at 12, and Karen arrived with her boyfriend, an hour early though! I just wanted to sit down, and catch up wi my mate, and ask her what she thought?  I know it was a slightly weighted question!!!

Graham must have talked them into having a cuppa first. Thank goodness. I invited the 2 of them to come for a cycle with me , because I knew I had to meet Marj and Baz at 1.00. And for a time it was ideal, because there was 5 of us cycling around the park, whist Graham and Steve spoke to some new folk. Awww remember Rob Wright, he is living with MS??? (i bullied him, into buying a Tricycle) and I then searched it out for him? Well his Carer came, and recognised Ziggy, b4 me! and told how him and Robert often passed me in the car, on Abbeydale Rd.

My bus arrived to collect me, again it took me round the world before home. But musn't grumble!

Oh, and it was lovely to see you Dave, thanks for calling.

Tuesday 9 October 2012

It's so difficult!

I would love to offer, my light hearted banter. about the Jimmy Savilles of this world.  But s'times I just have to think of others, and what I think is ok, they might be mortified by!! For that reason, I met Steve Marsden, and Steve Bailey (CTC) in Tesco for lunch today. Which Steve B kindly paid for. :) They were both so lovely and kind, they put me to shame really and made me feel, a bit like a spoilt child, having a paddy.

I'm having huge hot flushes!!!! either that or i've got a raging temperature.

I met Steve and Steve for 2hrs!!! plus the lovely Miriam joined us, it was really nice.

I'm dying to tell you about my male friend who is on course to self destruct!! I'd been texting all day, he eventually called and said I love you, and bye.....? So what would you do??? I just didn't bust a gut, but made sure I called to see him, (shouting through the letter box!!) on the way home.

Julie Andrews was round at mine disguised as James Herriot, as she played with my dog Holly, on the field at the back of my house.

Steve, Steve and I spoke excitedly about Dalby, and they want me to take Ziggy.

I've had some suggestions about Hillsborough, and Steve and my favourite man from the council, have agreed to meet :)

And yes, I'm back for now......

Friday 5 October 2012

The Fat Lady Bows Out!!!

It seems that I don't please folk with my blog anymore. So Thanks to anyone who's still here, after 3 years! But this is goodbye  :( And thank you all for being so supportive, over the years. You can still contact me via cardouglas10@hotmail.com or Facebook of course.

Thanks Pete for suggesting what turned out to be The Best Day,  of My Life, - when I carried the Olympic Flame.

Love You All xxxxxxx

Saturday 29 September 2012

Mick and Me,

View Photo0280.jpg in slide show Ahhhh, at school, we were inseperable, we were one anothers best friend, never more. Incase you were wondering?? But we used to hold hands constantly! Anyway he went off to America, and I met Jock, 20years later, we shared a taxi home from the School Reunion. Vowing and declaring we wouldn't leave it quite as long, and we didn't (just another 9years!!) But last night was great. Ey i aint been on a happy boozy night out for a ..........week! No but it felt extra good. Anthony, Dave and Jason joined us, and we spoke excitedly as Dave (a qualified Caver) spoke  about new plans for Speedwell Cavern. I asked if he needed any help promoting Caving for All abilities, as I would be willing to 'Fly the Flag' if he were to take Mick and I, one Saturday, a plan was hatched. So on October the 1st with helmet and wellies. Thats what we're doing. But we all had been in the pub for 6hrs!!At this point.

Jason, a keen Cyclist rode Ziggy back to my house, I let him have a go. I love it, when folk apprechiate her

Oh I forgot to mention The Cycle Show in Birmingham. I wish I was there, and I wish I'd known Steve was going......I missed a right opportunity !!

Thursday 27 September 2012

Ahhhh, I was missed today. :)

Lots of words have been said today, not many of them repeatable!! I've shed a few tears, and lots of lessons learnt, I hope. So I didn't go today, but all I needed was to hear, how much I was valued and missed, and I eagerly agreed to return, next week.

I wish I was at the Cycle Show, I bet it's full of folk I know, I'd love it.

OOoooh, I'm starting the Write Way creative writing group tomorrow. I wasn't going to go, but after I'd spoken with Steve I felt better. (it's so true that Hillsborough or Inclusive Cycling) is my identity, and I wasn't happy or whole. Until, I'd got the security of it back.

You know I was asked to help with the Waiting Area Redevelopment Team? at the Head Injury place? Well one of my ideas, would be for the Write Way group to post some Personal Stories and pictures, maybe Gwynifas Art stuff? (she's the wee Scottish lassy wi the Ginormas............. red heeled shoes!!) anyone who came to the reading?

And.......I'm going to a hugely important Networking event on Monday about the inequalities in Health in different Communities? Well although it is talking about Geographical communities. My Community is one of differing abilities, who often feel dependant on taxis to access gyms or swimming? As I did, so well..........just gi me a soap box!! Ey... I do feel better tonight than I've felt, for a while.

Wednesday 26 September 2012

:( I'm gonna miss Hillsborough tomorrow.

But I supposed all I wanted was for s'one to make me feel wanted and needed. And not replaced, by a bit of braun! And I think I've nearly got that, but it's too late to use DAR.

Steve has asked if I wanna go to the new All Ability MTB in Dalby Forest, now let me think........? I tried to act all cool, and say 'Dunno', Depends? Meanwhile my 9 year olds drooling with Jealousy at the Snowbikes in Cycling magazine. It's on Saturday the 13th of October, and then the week after I'm off to the ICF AGM, the week at Oxford.

Sunday 23 September 2012

Make No Decision about me Without me!

Was once said by a 'Mate' of mine! and as I sit here and fester, I'm beginning to agree.

Tomorrow being Monday, and it's the AGM of SHSC trustees, which going by last year, will be Pants! but I'm attending with my Torch etc. :D But how can I gush about Hillsborough?

Thursday 20 September 2012

I didn't enjoy today, at Hillsborough! :(

I don't want to say anything too soon. Because I am hoping that I'll change my mind, but I don't want to go anymore.

Fab friends!!

I am lucky, or' Special' :) as s'one put in a card.

After a liesurely morning, opening a present from my kids (it gets less, every year) My brother Steve arrived, to wish me b'day greetings and bring a  cool ideal gift for me. As I seem to do so many really exciting things that I never want to forget. It was one of those digital photo frames, I aint got a clue how to use it though, niether has Richard the cleaner yet :) Julie Andrews popped in, taking on the guise of Dr Dooditle, with Holly, and walking her to the shops.

I tried to no avail, carrying my Olympic Torch, to the Library to show Jane (the librarian and holder of painful memories of a time, when I was 'happily' married? and Nicky was a close friend. Just a little closer than I had imagined!1! Anyway I took myself and offered, to call in with the Torch (if they collected me as well) when Jane was doing a 'Events of 2012' piece of art work with the children.

That was yesterday.

Tuesday 18 September 2012

I was fitter then!!!

Firstly against my impulsive behaviour,  I sat on the Tesco bus this morning, and witnessed a young woman , whose language wasn't English, struggle on the bus. She was told, it wasn't a public bus, it was a private one for Tescos customers. She clearly didn't understand this, but got on it anyway. As the dry bus was more welcoming than the heavy shower she was escaping. After several failed attempt at ringing the bell and getting off, she made a dash for the door as the driver let folk on. 'You can't get off luv, you've got to stop on till we reach Tesco' an arguement followed in broken English. I felt very sorry for this woman, but curbed my instincts to get involved. She was let off, in the end and told to learn how to use the bus! I felt very sad for the poor woman, she was probably about 3 miles away, from where she'd got on. I wish I'd been braver, and tried to help, but I wasn't alone in thinking this, lots of folk, including the local Vicar! just mentioned how 'un Cristian' the drivers behaviour was. And I so wish I'd intervened to help!

Anyway Finns School rang, could I collect him? He'd been sick! So I climbed on my trusty steed Ziggy, and off I sped, except it wasn't so much 'Sped' as a Crawl. We did return quite quickly though down the steep hill, with my son perched on my Panniers!! I'd had enough of acting my age.......which is 40 flipin six tomorrow!!

Monday 17 September 2012

Perfect day :) eeek and I didn't cycle!!

I swam 10 lengths in 20m (only 25yards a length though I don't know it in Kilo grams and grams :D) HYad a gorgeous Omelette and coffee for lunch, courtessy of My lovely friend Miriam though because they didnt take debit cards!! - nightmare!! Moved on for a a project called War ....Waiting Area..Redesign. Which was very exciting, with talk  of Face Book, Blogs A Work Station. Hey amd they've copied sssssssh, I did it honestly :) the official pic of me with the torch.

Sunday 16 September 2012

Ey I'n right proud!!

Cycling back from the bus stop earlier, after a grueling session in town where I let my 13 year old daughter drag me into 'Thou Art' where the sadistic child paid for me to have my inner helix pierced.......ooooh it's not pervy honest!! in fact I'll get a pic of it soon, it's just difficult to do it myself! My chain got jammed between, the Sprocket and The Sprocket Guard??? Anyway having freshly oiled the chain with Sunflower cooking oil, (Finn had pinched my cycle lube) It was really yuky, and I was all primish, because I'd been to town, (i don't get out much!!) I extended the chain forwards, and it was huge!! I still can't figure out where it all came from? It just kept kinking, and zig zaging, but it wouldn't come unjammed. I sat on the pavement with an upturned Ziggy, and eased the chain free, carefully feeding it back on the sprocket, and then is it the derailer, at the back?? Do you know, no-one stoped and asked if I was ok!!! I am really chuffed though, because I thought it was going to snap the chain.

My new piercings on Face book apparently.

Hey I'm going swimming tomorrow, lunch with my mate Miriam, and then I'm helping to redesign the waiting area at Brain Injury Rehab Centre.

Friday 14 September 2012

I'm booked!!!!

Saturday the 20th of October, I am booked in Oxfords Youth Hostel, I'm presuming theres only one! and I had to say top or bottom!! .....bunk :)

It will be fab cos Kevin Hickman, is lending me his Trike, so I can zip along.... I kid you!!

My lil boy has just saved all his hard earned pennies, bought himself a Half Pipe, I paid for shipping £45!!!!! and it's now assembled in the middle of my Lawn, among the Rhodedenrums!!

Thursday 13 September 2012

Marj and Baz!!

View Photo0275.jpg in slide show
They turn up for their weekly Cycle, but I know it's not the wheels they love, it's the different conversation, and the fresh air.

We were over run with staff today, Graham, Gavin, Paul another bike mechanic volunteer, and me. Oh and Dave Bocking kept appearing, I love Mr Bocking, as he set up my blog 3 years ago!!

Steve was in hosp today :( not too serious! but he was missed by me.

I know I've missed DH s b'day??? about a month ago, and if you read this I'm sorry,.

I need to speak to Kev Hickman, about the ICF weekend in October??

I had my a* squeezed today!! but nowt was said!! - how would you take that one then!!

Oh I met Neil who was covered in Tats, and had been viciously kniffed!!! he too had brain damage. And I trusted him to ride Ziggy, he was so impressed, and promised to book on for the following week. Thamking me for giving him a bit of my time :)

Tuesday 11 September 2012

Monday :) Tuesday :/

Yesterday, was good, but I'm soooo unfit!! I only cycled to Millhouses to see Miriam in the Park, and I didn't half weeze and splutter, coming back! In fact I was going so slowly I transferred onto the Pavement at Totley Bridge, I kinda thought it safer.

I received a gorgeous lovely text off Chris Shaw - remember I went to London with him in May? to the National Centre of Sport and Exercise for Medcine. And he introduced me to many folk, who I now know are 'movers and shakers' in the field of finance and health. Anyway I called back and we spoke excitedly about our next project.....Rio!! I jest!! Anyway he's collecting me and taking me to a meeting on the 1/10, so I'm really excited now.

Hey Long Term Neurological Conditions, want me as a poster girl, holding The Torch!! Which I reckon is a good thing because a lot of Brain Injury groups, seem   to discourage cycling. And although I'm not on my Trike, everyone will ask why I was a Torch Bearer. So me being me, reluctantly had my arm twisted again :)

Sunday 9 September 2012

:(

I think I must have been on a high since I was a Torch Bearer. And I've kept up there, without anyone else influencing how I felt. Which is a very satistfying thing, knowing that I'm not relying on s'one else to make me feel better. But suddenly today, maybe the end of the Paralympics? Or maybe it's my new Memory Foam mattress, drawing me like a magnet, but I've felt tired, lathargic, fat and listless

Saturday 8 September 2012

Fantastic!!! I could have gone as well!!1

CTC member Caroline Waugh, who carried the Olympic torch, and CTC Cycling Development Officer Steve Marsden were invited by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg to watch Paralympic cyclist Sarah Storey win Britain's first gold medal. Caroline, who is now used to the limelight, even managed to persuade Mr Clegg to promise to come along and watch a session of the disability cycling activities she assists with at Hillsborough in Sheffield. Disabled CTC member John Thraves thinks our Paralympic cyclists are inspirational. John, who had the lower part of his leg amputated due to diabetes, has just qualified as National Standard cycle instructor. He will be helping CTC deliver a one-day All Ability Cycle Leaders’ courseas part of a four-day National Standard Instructor course in St Austell, Cornwall from 29 September to 2 October.

Good News!

Nick Clegg, Steve Marsden, and myself have it in our diaries that on the 22nd of March next year, we will all try and be in the same place. With the Side by Side Cycle, like the one pictured yesterday. But who knows, where we will be, in 6 months time.

Today, I aint moved !!

Thursday 6 September 2012

Today was Ace!

View photo0274_001.jpg in slide showZara and I today on the Side by Side :) I reckon there was a group of 20+ young people, 10 carers. And then the usual lot, like Marj and Baz, who are so lovely because they brought me a Vegaterian Haggis back and a special suprise of Puffin Droppings!! from there recent holiday to the Shetlands.

Now I don't mean to be contentious!! but it strikes me, I'm the only one with honset motives here!!.........Nick Cleg and I had set a date for him Cycling on the 'Side by Side' with me (like the one pictured) Steve said it had to be Hil;lsborough, because that where Cycling 4 All takes place, Nick says it's gotta be Endcliffe, because thats his Constituency. I say....does it matter really just get the Cycle publisised!!! So anyway it's not happening !!! what a missed opportunity!!!

Wednesday 5 September 2012

I've missed Hillsborough :)

Marj phoned, Pats carer phoned me. And Kate the 32 year old Mum who had a stroke.  They all had my number because I fret incase they can't get hold of Steve, I just don't want them to miss out!! Lets hope they don't turn up at once, although Steve thought we'd cope. I'm having an insy bit of a disagreement with Steve about my date with Nick Cleg next March.

My lil boy, bless him emptied the copper jar, and back of the settee (always a treasure trove!!) and got his bus fare £1.20 in 2ps. And do you know the bus driver counted it out.....very...slowly!!

Tuesday 4 September 2012

I'm ok! :)

Although I was thrilled on Thursday, and the day went soo well, it was just so relaxing, and I didn't mind being spoilt and pampered a bit. And the luxury of having Steve as my captive listener, for 15 hours!! It can't ever top being a Torch Bearer! I know I go on, but hey? wouldn't you.

I'm Cycling to Millhouses Park tomorrow, to meet Steve and Nigel, I'll probably call in at Henliegh Hall, on the way.

Last month, Caroline Waugh carried the Olympic Torch and this week she was invited by Sheffield MP and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg to the Paralympics.

Steve's blog

Caroline decided to take me along as her guest, as through my work for CTC in Sheffield, I have helped her to ride a tricycle and also more recently encouraged her to ride a bicycle.
It was a very full and special day at the Velodrome. We were treated like VIPs. We met Lord Sebastian Coe, who is a local Sheffielder too and got to sit right by all the celebs and members of the Royal family!
Nick Clegg came and sat with us for about an hour. I was surprised how much he new about sport. We all chatted as though we had know each other for ages.
Caroline managed to bend his ear about the disability cycling at Hillsborough and got him to agree to come alone to one of our sessions! She is never one to miss an opportunity.
Then the women's individual C5 pursuit started with Sarah Storey in the final, Sarah out classed Anna Harkowska from Poland and she took gold with ease. It was so exciting to see Sarah Storey win Great Britain's first Gold Medal of the Paralympics!
I was amazed how the crowd was so supportive of all the teams but when Team GB came out, the roar was electrifying - I had goose bumps on the back of my neck.

The session came to a close after the tandem time pursuit and the medal ceremony. We had a fantastic experience and Caroline had a great and full day. We got home to Sheffield after 11pm, tired but inspired and happy.

Caroline's blog

We arrived in London by train from Sheffield, fortunately I hadn’t got to walk too far to the Javelin - which is a rail link that took us to Stratford and the Olympic Park. Steve was wearing his CTC shirt and dark smart jeans with pride and I was in my new ‘Primani’ gear.
We met Kate, who was assigned to ‘chaperone’ us all day, So we could get VIP passes and eeeeek!!! (a blast from the past) a mobility scooter! I must admit it felt a bit strange resorting to that mode of transport, I had jokingly asked if Steve and I could share a tandem, but everyone seemed to laugh it off.
What a good job it was that I didn’t have to walk though the Olympic Par - it was a huge place.
We arrived at the Velodrome, and we’re taken to the bar, where food and drink was free. It all looked and tasted gorgeous, Kate came back with our drinks, tea for Steve and a bucket sized glass of wine for me! I caught Steve’s glare, but I needed some dutch courage!
We were joined by a guy who claimed to be Boris Johnson's PA, and he spoke incredibly like him. No one was asking him who he was, so I did!! And we swapped contact cards, he turned out to be his brother Leo Johnson.
I also saw Wendy Creed who I'd met at a cycling conference in Cornwall. She is a volunteer at the Velodrome. She ushered us to our seats, and gave us a piece paper which explained the different 5 categories.
Seb Coe joined our row of seats, and I looked at Steve, is that Lord Coe? Yes it was, was his reply.
Nick Clegg came and joined us, and it was like meeting a friend the way he approached me. He didn’t hold out his hand, he went to ‘air kiss me’ and give me a hug, it was lovely and very informal.
Inclusive Cycling has become my total passion. In the same way the Paralympians are totally dedicated to a cause and make sacrifices, I am striving to encourage others. All ability cycling is about independence which is something I hold dear to my heart.
Caroline Waugh
I kept trying to steer the conversation towards the different Community Health Projects I am involved in and how beneficial they were to the economy. But Nick Clegg didn't really want to discuss any contentious issues. So we had a really ‘normal’ conversation, about children and Sheffield stuff.
I did suggest that we meet up back in Sheffield, for him to try the ‘side by side’ cycle with me in one of the parks. He seemed keen to do this, as I explained the benefits of this compared to a normal tandem.
I didn’t mean to sound like I was testing Nick Clegg but I asked him lots of questions. To be honest my brain had store so much stuff on the day, I couldn’t recall what disability Sarah Storey had, so I asked Nick, who eagerly provided me with a bit of her history. He explained how she had also qualified for the Paralympic swimming team, but her preferred discipline had been cycling.
Sarah Storey was so fast, she was obviously winning, and was a whole half track ahead by the finish. We all stood for the medals, and our National Anthem. I was very proud, to play a part in the moment.

Wednesday 29 August 2012

It's Raining, it's pouring!

Steve Marsden phoned early to give me a progress report....or not so.... as the case was. The Park where the one show were filming had been sevtioned off, it was like a lake in the middle of the grass field, with jets of water spurting into the air, because the underground drainage, well it just couldn't take any more!! I made the most of Dial a Ride, and playedf a suprise visit on my bruv and family. It must have been a shock, I don't think I've been unpromptu, for 24 years!! My plan was to cycle to the Park, and join Steve and Graham at 2??I set off back to the park, and got lost!!! and then my chain came off my derailer! but I didn;t actually know that. So I half sped and half waddled down to the park. When a gorgeously handsome man, said 'Ooooooh, can I fix the chain on your derailer, for you' I refrained from talking about lubricants, or bushes and just let him fiddle wi my behind (ziggys!!!)

I feel very reassured knowing that we have a ' Chaperone' to see us about the Olympic Park. Also Steve and I have to do a 'His' and 'My' version of events, for the CTC. It's as if they are expecting a calamity!!......as if.... :)

I stayed with Steve and Graham, for a while, in the rain. And came away before any filming, at about 4.

What will I talk about wi Mr Clegg? What will I talk about wi Steve for that long reaLLY.
